According to media reports, ANI has claimed that OpenAI has been using its content to train the artificial intelligence chatbot.

The first hearing in the case took place in a New Delhi High Court on Tuesday, where the judge issued a notice to OpenAI to provide a detailed response to ANI's accusations. The court has meanwhile refused to pass any interim order against the parent firm of ChatGPT.

ANI has reportedly said that its news stories are protected under copyright laws and OpenAI was using it illegally.

The news agency has cited instances in which ChatGPT generated responses that are copied, verbatim from news stories published by ANI.

One of the media reports quoted an a spokesperson for OpenAI saying in a statement, "We build our AI models using publicly available data, in a manner protected by fair use and related principles, and supported by long-standing and widely accepted legal precedents".
