Until the arrival of Piyush, all advertising in India was English-based or had an English tone of voice. He changed that to an Indian tone of voice, steeped in stories that he had mostly heard in his younger days or had observed during his working life. This immediately broadened the audience size many fold, and appealed to a lot more of us including India’s growing middle class.
His best work was for Asian Paints, Pidilite and Cadbury for which he will be remembered the most. Incidentally all 3 were Madison clients. Piyush did not start out in adverting, he started as a tea taster thus proving that anybody can try his hand at advertising and succeed. He will be sorely missed, but his legacy will continue for generations to come and he will continue to inspire future leaders.
