Paresh Chaudhry, former Communications Leader for SEA at Unilever and former Group President at Reliance Industries and the Adani Group, fondly reminisces about his cherished memories with the legendary Piyush Pandey, recalling how deeply valued and dear Piyush was to him.

My relationship with Piyush Pandey was more than a professional experience—it was a masterclass in storytelling, empathy, and the art of connecting with people. Our paths crossed during my time at Hindustan Unilever, where Piyush’s creative genius helped shape some of the most iconic campaigns in Indian advertising history. His ability to distill complex ideas into simple, emotionally resonant messages was unmatched.

Our brainstorming sessions were electric. Piyush had a way of turning even the most casual conversation into a springboard for powerful ideas. He listened deeply, challenged assumptions, and always brought the focus back to the people we were trying to reach. There was a synergy in our approach—we both believed that impactful communication must speak to the heart, not just the mind.

One of the most memorable chapters of our collaboration was our time together at the Cannes Lions Festival. Amid the glamour and global buzz, Piyush remained grounded, his booming laugh echoed! We shared stories, soaked in inspiration, and celebrated creativity in its purest form. His presence was magnetic—he was not just admired, but genuinely loved by peers from around the world.

We worked on a campaign idea when I was with Adani, where once again, Piyush’s brilliance lit up the room. His ideas were rooted in authenticity and cultural nuance, and he had an uncanny knack for finding the emotional core of a brand’s message. Whether it was a rural insight or a metropolitan trend, he could weave it into a narrative that resonated across India.

What stood out most was our shared focus on impact. Piyush wasn’t interested in advertising for advertising’s sake. He wanted to move people, to make them think, feel, and act. That ethos aligned perfectly with my own belief in purposeful communication.

As we remember Piyush Pandey, we celebrate not just the campaigns he created, but the conversations he sparked, the minds he mentored, and the joy he brought into every room. His legacy is etched not only in the ads that became part of our cultural fabric but also in the hearts of those who had the privilege to work alongside him.

Lastly, I will miss our endless, creative & crazy discussions over his “Teachers whiskey” & my “Old monk” that stirred many heart cords.

See you “Partner” on the side.
