Matt Brittin, a former senior Google executive, has been chosen to take over as the BBC’s next director-general, according to media reports.
The report said the BBC board cleared his appointment during a meeting held on Thursday, and a formal declaration is likely to be made later this week.
Earlier in January, the BBC had announced that Director-General Tim Davie would leave his post on April 2. Until a full-time successor is put in place, Rhodri Talfan Davies, the corporation’s director of nations, is set to serve in the role on an interim basis.
Davie had revealed in November that he would resign after the BBC faced intense backlash over the inaccurate editing of a video involving US President Donald Trump.
