Three arrested in Gwalior for BARC Panel Home Tampering
It was found that a group of people were paying a small sum to people in whose houses the TRP meter was installed, asking them to watch a particular Hindi news channel

The Gwalior police has arrested three people for panel home tampering. The complaint was registered against seven people. The FIR was filed by the police on the complaint registered by Deputy General Manager of Hansa Research, one of the vendors of BARC India that installed BAR-O-Meters in panel homes.
As per reports, it was found that a group of people were paying a small sum to those in whose houses the BAR-O-Meters were installed, asking them to watch a particular Hindi news channel.
Names of the accused and that of the news channel involved in this fraud has not been revealed by the police.
A BARC India spokesperson said, “BARC India is committed to a measurement system that is fair, transparent and free of any influences and malpractices. We have deployed cutting-edge technology to detect panel infiltration, and follow up with on-ground vigilance/investigations.
Since day one, we have been approaching law enforcement officials for their support in controlling this menace. We are encouraged by the fact that due to our sustained campaign and complaints, police are now taking action, and arresting those involved in this illegal activity.”
This the second arrest that has been made in four months. The first arrest was in Karnataka by Bengaluru Cyber Crime Police for trying to tamper with the television viewership data generated by BARC. The complaint was filed by BARC India, which was followed by five people being detained in Telangana. The FIR was filed by the police after BARC India’s vigilance team found out that the details of the households where BARC India’s BAR-O-Meters are installed were compromised. The FIR has been filed for manipulation, tampering, cheating and breach of trust.
BARC India has also set up a Disciplinary Council headed by Justice Mukul Mudgal to strengthen transparency and credibility of its measurement system.
