Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and at least five others were killed when a Learjet 45 crashed at Baramati Airport on Wednesday morning, 28 January, according to media reports.

According to authorities, the Learjet 45XR (VT-SSK) operated by VSR Aviation went off the runway, crashed, and caught fire.

Reports indicate that emergency services responded immediately, but all passengers on the plane were killed. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.

Ajit Pawar, who had been serving as the 8th Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra alongside Eknath Shinde under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis since December 2024, was the longest-serving Deputy Chief Minister in the state’s history, holding the post non-consecutively over several terms.
