Actor Salman Khan has been drawn into a legal dispute after a complaint was filed in the Kota Consumer Court accusing him and the makers of Rajshree Pan Masala of misleading advertising.
The court has issued notices to the actor and the company, seeking a response before the next hearing scheduled for November 27, 2025.
The complaint, lodged by senior BJP leader and Rajasthan High Court advocate Inder Mohan Singh Honey, argues that the advertisements for Rajshree Pan Masala falsely claim the product contains “saffron-infused cardamom” and “saffron-infused pan masala.”
Honey questioned the credibility of these claims, pointing out that saffron, which costs around ₹4 lakh a kilogram, is unlikely to be a real ingredient in a product that sells for ₹5.
In his statement, Honey said the advertisements not only mislead consumers but also glamorise a product that poses serious health risks. “Salman Khan is a role model for millions. By promoting pan masala, he sends the wrong message to the youth,” he told ANI. “Celebrities in other countries refuse to promote even soft drinks, while here our stars endorse tobacco-linked products that contribute to mouth cancer.”
The complaint seeks a ban on the advertisements and accountability from both the brand and its ambassador. The Kota Consumer Court has taken note of the petition and asked the respondents to file formal replies. Neither Khan nor the company has issued a public statement yet.
