The Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) celebrated its 31st Foundation Day on November 8 at Jawahar Bhavan in Delhi with a special ceremony. The event was graced by the Chief Justice of India-designate, Justice Surya Kant, as the chief guest. The program was chaired by IWPC President Sujata Raghavan.

The evening was highlighted by Sufi performance by the Niazi Nizami Brothers. On the occasion, the organization also released its annual souvenir, featuring articles on media and women’s empowerment.

In his address, Justice Surya Kant lauded the contributions of women journalists, stating that “media is the backbone of democracy, and women journalists bring new energy and sensitivity to it.” He highlighted the challenges posed by rapid technological changes, including the growing use of artificial intelligence in journalism. He cautioned that deepfakes and false narratives are increasingly being used to spread misinformation, disproportionately affecting women journalists.

Justice Surya Kant urged media organizations to develop policies and safety protocols that protect the privacy, dignity, and security of women journalists. He emphasized, “True journalism is about having the courage to speak the truth, upholding ethics, and building trust in society.”

The IWPC also shared that it organizes social and health initiatives throughout the year, including cancer and dental check-up camps, blood donation drives in collaboration with the Red Cross, and sports competitions, actively involving journalists and their families.

The event was attended by a large gathering of journalists, dignitaries, and IWPC members.
