ITC appoints Amitabh Kant as Independent Director

ITC has re-appointed Hemant Malik as Director, liable to retire by rotation, and as a Wholetime Director for two years

ITC Limited has announced the appointment of Amitabh Kant as an Independent Director of the company for a period of five years, effective from 1 January 2026.

Kant, is a retired IAS officer with over four decades of experience in public administration and governance reform. Kant served as the G20 Sherpa to the Prime Minister of India during India’s G20 Presidency in 2022-23.

He has also held key positions including Chief Executive Officer of NITI Aayog, Secretary of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, CEO of Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, and Tourism Secretary to the Government of Kerala.

Kant presently serves on the Boards of HCL Technologies Limited, Larsen & Toubro Limited and InterGlobe Aviation Limited, amongst others.

Additionally, ITC has re-appointed of Hemant Malik as a Director, liable to retire by rotation, and also as a Wholetime Director of the company for a period of two years, effective from 12 August 2026.

Malik currently serves as the Divisional Chief Executive of ITC’s Foods Business Division and also oversees the company’s Personal Care Products Business. He brings over 35 years of experience across multiple ITC businesses, including Tobacco and Foods, as well as the Trade Marketing & Distribution (TM&D) vertical.

Prior to assuming his current role in October 2016, Malik served as Chief Executive of the TM&D Vertical from April 2016. He headed the All India Tobacco Sales function in 2001 and became Head of Marketing for ITC’s nascent Foods Business in April 2002. In April 2008, he was appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the newly established FMCG TM&D Vertical. He later took charge as COO of Cigarette Brands and Supply Chain, India Tobacco Division (ITD) in August 2012, and was elevated to Divisional Chief Executive of ITD in August 2015.
