Chander Mohan Sethi, former chairman and managing director of Reckitt Benckiser India, passed away in Mumbai last week. Known fondly as 'Tiger' among his peers, Sethi was widely admired for his sharp strategic thinking.
Sethi played a key role in shaping Reckitt’s presence in the Indian market during a career that spanned over four decades.
Sethi began his career with GlaxoSmithKline, where he spent a decade before moving to Reckitt Benckiser (now Reckitt). Over nearly 30 years at the company, he helped build it into one of India’s leading consumer product players. Under his leadership, Dettol, Harpic, Lizol and Cherry Blossom became staples across Indian homes.
Sethi was also behind the launch of new brands like Veet and played a key role in expanding the reach of Vanish and Mortein. One of his most significant moves was leading the acquisition of Paras Pharma’s FMCG portfolio, adding popular brands such as Moov and Dermicool to Reckitt’s lineup.
After his long tenure at Reckitt, Sethi went on to serve as chairman of Brillon Consumer Products (formerly SC Johnson India), where he continued to influence the sector, overseeing brands like All Out, Baygon, Kiwi and Glade.
