Influencer Raj Shamani and dermatologist Dr Manjot Marwah have agreed to delete a YouTube video criticising Dettol antiseptic liquid as part of a court settlement.
The Delhi High Court on Tuesday recorded that Shamani and Marwah are willing to remove or edit both the podcast episode and an Instagram reel in which remarks were made about Dettol’s use on skin. The development came during a defamation suit filed by Dettol’s parent company, Reckitt Benckiser India.
Reckitt had accused the two, along with influencer Ritik Chaturvedi, of making “false and defamatory” statements against the brand. The court was informed that Shamani and Marwah have agreed to delete the disputed content within 24 hours. Social media platforms have also been directed to cooperate.
Chaturvedi, who had reshared the reel, told the court he has already removed it. He has been instructed not to repost similar content.
The case centres on a podcast titled “Skin Mistakes You Didn’t Know! Tanning & Sunburn EXPOSED” released on April 1, 2025, and a reel titled “Never Use Dettol on Your Skin” posted on April 5. In the video, Dr Marwah allegedly claimed Dettol is “essentially a floor cleaner” and warned against applying it to wounds.
Reckitt argued that Dettol is approved for skin use and has been marketed as an antiseptic in India since 1936. It said the statements could mislead consumers and damage the brand’s reputation.
The court has asked all parties to submit a formal application to record the compromise. Until then, the terms of settlement have been taken on record, and both Shamani and Marwah are expected to delete the content in compliance.
