In a defamation suit filed by Anil Ambani, the Delhi High Court on 7 May issued notice to NDTV and its CEO and Editor-in-Chief Rahul Kanwal over coverage of CBI and ED investigations linked to his group companies.
The court, presided over by Justice Subramonium Prasad, directed NDTV to file its response to Anil Ambani’s plea for an interim injunction to restrain further publication of the disputed content. The hearing is scheduled for 18 July, with no interim relief given.
Ambani, in his petition, has claimed that NDTV published about 72 targeted reports in recent months that he says were motivated and damaging to his reputation and business interests. He has sought damages exceeding Rs 2 crore, which he says would be donated to charity.
The suit lists NDTV, its parent entity, Rahul Kanwal, and other parties as defendants. Ambani’s counsel has also pointed to a possible conflict of interest, citing reported Adani Group interest in his companies.
The matter relates to ongoing investigations by central agencies into firms linked to the Reliance ADA Group. NDTV has so far not issued an official response to the legal proceedings.
