Sundar Pichai on Friday said Google is building artificial intelligence solutions tailored for Indian businesses and consumers, underlining the company’s deepening commitment to the country’s AI ecosystem at the India AI Impact Summit.
Speaking on the fifth day of the summit, Pichai said India is poised for an “extraordinary trajectory with AI” and that Google is supporting this journey with a full stack approach spanning products, skilling and infrastructure. He noted that innovations originating in India, such as Google Pay, have gone on to shape products used globally, reinforcing India’s growing influence in technology development.
On the products front, Pichai said Google is developing AI powered tools and services specifically for Indian users and enterprises. He highlighted that 22 Gemma models have already been contributed to AI Coach to empower India’s developer community. The company is also working with the government on AI applications with real world impact, including more timely monsoon forecasts for farmers, AI based screening support for healthcare workers to detect conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, and expanding access to information and services in multiple Indian languages.
He added that AI is reimagining everyday products, especially search. Indian users are among the highest adopters of voice and visual search globally, he said. Scam detection features integrated with Circle to Search and Lens are used in India more than anywhere else, reflecting strong uptake of AI driven safety tools.
Pichai said the Gemini app is growing rapidly worldwide and is now available in 10 Indian languages. He also pointed to YouTube’s role in enabling Indian creators to share music, arts and culture with global audiences.
On skilling, Pichai said Google aims to equip 10 million future Indian leaders with AI capabilities through its AI Skill House initiative. The company is partnering with Wadhwani AI to reach students and early career professionals with a Google AI certificate programme announced earlier this week.
In terms of infrastructure, he reiterated Google’s previously announced $15 billion investment in Indian digital infrastructure, centred around an AI Hub in Visakhapatnam that will house gigawatt scale compute capacity. The facility is expected to create jobs and expand access to advanced AI capabilities for businesses across the country.
He also referenced the India America Connect Initiative, which will introduce new subsea cable routes linking the US, India and parts of the Southern Hemisphere, strengthening digital trade routes and connectivity.
Emphasising the importance of resilient supply chains and trusted partnerships, Pichai said deeper technology collaboration between India and the United States, alongside the recent trade agreement, would help build a robust and long term tech partnership between the two nations.
