Amid news of retrenchments across the board, Padma Rao, National Editor of Hindustan Times, announced on social media that she has moved on. Rao’s announcement about her resignation on social media comes with a note, clarifying that she hasn’t been let off by the company.

According to her social media post, Rao is taking up an international editorial assignment with a global organization in New Delhi.

Her post on Facebook read: “Since HT reportedly let off many colleagues yesterday, (very sad, if it's true. But it's on WhatsApp so dodgy, and I've had no confirmation from anyone so far) - I am getting a lot of 'condolence' messages today. However, I must tell you that I was NOT LET OFF. I had resigned myself from HT last week, since come June 1, I'll be taking on a new, international editorial assignment with a global organization in New Delhi. I was withholding the news from FB till I actually start work on Monday. The job was finalized a month ago; I was only waiting to complete formalities, before handing in my resignation letter. I leave HT with a very heavy heart - but really look forward to my new - and extremely challenging and exciting new job! You shall soon know where and what.”
