Zenith Optimedia is launching its digital arm, Zed Digital, in India on April 19. Vineet Mathur has been appointed Senior VP of Zed Digital. He would be reporting to Ambika Srivastava, CEO, Zenith Optimedia.

Srivastava, while confirming the development, refused to divulge further details about the new arm. However, it is learnt that Zed digital will handle the existing digital business of Zenith Optimedia and also pitch for new business in the digital field.

In Europe, ZenithOptimedia had rebranded all its interactive and digital units under the name Zed Digital in the first phase of a global rollout in early 2006. Zed Digital specialises in all digital platforms, from Interactive Performance Marketing to Mobile.

Steve King, Global CEO, ZenithOptimedia, had said in a press statement at the time of announcing the launch of Zed Digital, “While we have very good operations in local markets, we wanted to provide greater cohesiveness to our operations and to better harness knowledge and insights by bringing these teams under common leadership. We are already forecasting continued rapid growth in our digital activities and believe this initiative will deliver significant growth and client benefits."

Prior to this appointment, Mathur was heading his own outfit, Shrivinayak.com, for six years. The company specialises in Internet consultancy and is still in operation. Mathur brings with him 15 years of experience in sales.

On his appointment, Mathur said, “The reason I joined Zed digital is that I wanted to get back into the corporate world after heading my own outfit for six years. The Internet space is growing rapidly. Clients are now moving away from the traditional agencies and are demanding an Internet mix. I wanted to move things forward and so took up this new challenge.”

Mathur had worked with Indiads.com in 2005-06 where he headed the Indian operations. He has worked with agencies like OgilvyOne Worldwide, GroupM, Initiative Media, Result McCann and TribalDDB. He has also previously worked with hindustantimes.com, where he was heading sales, from 1998-2000. He has also handled brands like Shaadi.com, Makemytrip.com, WorldQuestNetworks, Uniontelecard.com, Net2Phone.com, Nokia, WorldSpace Radio, SBI-Retail, DirecTV, Airtel and Incredible India, among others.
