As the date for JWT’s Portfolio Night in Mumbai comes closer, aspiring young advertising copywriters, art directors and designers look forward to spending those precious moments with renowned legends of the ad fraternity. In the meanwhile, we ask creative leaders what they look forward to this year from candidates.
Santosh Padhi, Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder, Taproot India advises aspirants, “You hardly get time to meet one ECD on a normal day (such is the reality); in this case, the platform allows you to meet three of them (followed by few more during the cocktail hour). They have come with a single agenda to see your work, so make sure you really have great stuff in the book or work hard in whatever time is left. You will not only get to know three points of view, but might end up getting three offers as well.”
JWT is championing Portfolio Night 11 (Mumbai leg), partnered by exchange4media in its fourth innings in India. It aims to help gifted young creatives discover new opportunities in the ad world and take their voices to the advertising industry’s global stage. It is an ideal platform for advertising and creative freshers to meet with several renowned creative directors for advice, networking and recruitment.
Arun Iyer, National Creative Director, Lowe Lintas and Partners hopes to see work that would truly surprise him. His sentiments are echoed by Manish Bhatt, Founder-Director, Scarecrow Communications, “The candidates should not showcase academic or safe work. This is a forum where they can showcase non-political work with complete liberty. This is a platform where candidates can tap their higher aspirations with complete freedom.”
In the 11 years since its inception, Portfolio Night has grown to be a global event, reaching creative hubs in every continent in an evening where the best of the present meet the best of the years to come.
Talent is at the top of the list for Ashish Khazanchi, National Creative Director, Publicis Group. He feels a hunger to do great work is an imperative, combined with how well equipped the individual is with the knowledge of his or her craft and the application of the craft.
Mumbai has been one of most popular Portfolio Night locations. Participants travel from all parts of India to attend it.
Sonal Dabral, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer, DDB Mudra Group concludes with his advice to the candidates, “Leave all your fears at home. Do not be over-awed, feel shy or hesitate. Ask as many questions as you can. Fearlessly. And yeah, keep your eyes, ears, heart and mind wide open.”
Here’s hoping Portfolio Night once again gives the industry a new breed of young talent hungry for good work. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
