ZEEL to launch Marathi movie channel Zee Talkies

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) has added one more channel to its bouquet of regional channels. The forthcoming offering is Zee Talkies, a Marathi movie channel. The bouquet already has a Marathi channel in Zee Marathi. Nitin Vaidya who heads the regional channels for ZEEL, will head Zee Talkies as well.

Speaking some more on the launch plans, Vaidya explained that even as the plan has been in the pipeline for a while, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has given the green signal to uplink this channel only now. He said, “We are preparing for the launch and I think we would be able to launch in the next couple of months.”

The content and marketing of the channel at present is being overseen by Ajay Bhalwankar, VP at ZEEL. Explaining more on the reasons to add a Marathi movie channel, Vaidya said, “The kind of deliveries that the Marathi movies have given in the last few months are fantastic -- sometimes they even beat the Hindi mass channels. I think the channel is going to rock. It will also give a boost to the Marathi movie industry.”

ZEEL believes that the Marathi film industry, which is rich in terms of content, needs a proper distribution network and adequate promotion. Zee Talkies is expected to provide the missing links to Marathi cinema.
