Doordarshan is implementing a Rs 225-crore special project on narrowcasting of agricultural programmes funded by the Planning Commission under the Tenth Plan.
Under this project, 36 Doordarshan Kendras across the country are producing and telecasting area specific programmes five days a week through a network of 180 transmitters.
These programmes are repeated next morning in the respective Regional Language Satellite Channel (RLSS). Doordarshan is also telecasting thematic agricultural programmes on weekdays in the evening from 18 regional kendras in 18 states in broadcast mode.
In view of the good response to the narrowcasting project, Doordarshan now for the first time is telecasting these programmes on its national channel six days a week. The public broadcaster has also introduced live phone-in programming from most narrowcasting and broadcasting kendras with a view to provide interactivity.
From September onwards, Doordarshan will come up with live programming from villages in selected networks, beginning with the Jaipur Doordarshan Kendra, to provide on-the-spot solutions to farmers’ problems through crop seminars.
