Maharashtra Industries Minister Subhash Desai met newspaper hawkers and publishers on Wednesday and it was decided that newspapers will be published and distributed from April 1, 2020, in Mumbai, sources have told exchange4media.

All print media houses in Mumbai suspended publishing and distributing their print editions from Monday.

The Union government has already said circulation of newspapers should go not be interrupted as it is vital to ensure that citizens can be made aware of the latest updates and are made aware of accurate information.

The Centre had also issued a circular asking all states and Union Territories to facilitate operational convenience of services to ensure dissemination of timely and authentic information.

Earlier, Brihanmumbai Vruttapatra Vikreta Sangh (BVVS), the newspaper vendors association, and the management of print media houses held a meeting in order to arrive at a solution. BVVS had said the circulation will resume on Thursday, unless the government issues a futher notice.
