Rajeev Shukla is poised to become the acting president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as current president Roger Binny approaches the age cap mandated by the board’s constitution.
Binny, who took over the BCCI presidency in 2022, will turn 70 on July 19, the maximum permissible age for any office-bearer in the BCCI. As per the board’s rules, he will have to vacate the position upon reaching this limit.
Shukla, currently serving as BCCI vice-president, is expected to assume the role in an interim capacity until the board’s next Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is likely to be held in September.
A veteran cricket administrator and senior politician, Shukla has previously held key roles in Indian cricket, including a long tenure as chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between 2011 and 2017. His experience across both governance and cricket makes him a natural fit for the acting role.
