The Board of Control for Cricket in India is preparing to invite bids for Team India’s next jersey sponsorship, according to people familiar with the matter
The move follows uncertainty around Dream11, the current principal sponsor, after the government’s decision to ban real-money gaming platforms. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, passed in the Rajya Sabha this week, will outlaw such businesses once it receives presidential assent. Even ahead of the law taking effect, major fantasy-gaming operators including Dream11, MPL and Zupee have announced the shutdown of their RMG operations.
At present, the Indian cricket team sports the Dream11 logo, but keeping it on once the law is enacted could invite penalties for the board. For now, BCCI appears to be waiting until the Act is formally notified before suspending its partnership. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told The Times of India that once the law is in place, the board will examine it carefully.
If sponsorship from such companies is permissible, BCCI may continue; if not, it will step away, he said.
Industry observers say the board could be hoping for a short window before the presidential assent, which would allow the team to continue with Dream11 during the Asia Cup and give BCCI time to finalize a new sponsor.
Dream11 had replaced Byju’s in 2023 through a three-year deal worth ₹358 crore, with payments of ₹3 crore for home games and ₹1 crore for away matches.
The men’s team is scheduled to compete in the Asia Cup in the UAE from September 9, while the women’s side will take on Australia at home from September 14.
The recently passed National Sports Governance Law, 2025, has also clarified the government’s stand on cricketing ties with Pakistan: bilateral series remain barred, but India can face Pakistan in multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup.
Potential contenders for the jersey sponsorship include current IPL partner Tata, long-standing brands such as Jio and Adani and new-age players like Zerodha.
