Senior journalist P.R. Ramesh, Managing Editor of Open Magazine, has been appointed as Information Commissioner at the Central Information Commission (CIC). His appointment is being seen as an important step toward strengthening the Right to Information (RTI) framework in India.
Ramesh will now be responsible for safeguarding citizens’ right to information and ensuring transparency in government functioning. He is widely recognised for his expertise in covering politics, governance, and public policy, and has closely followed issues related to administration, power, and citizen rights.
Alongside Ramesh, Raj Kumar Goel has been appointed as Chief Information Commissioner, and eight others have been named as Information Commissioners, including two senior journalists.
In addition to Ramesh, Ashutosh Chaturvedi, Editor-in-Chief of Prabhat Khabar, has also been appointed as an Information Commissioner at the CIC.
