A grand and historic ceremony marked the oath-taking of the newly formed National Executive Committee of the Editors Club of India at the India International Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. This moment became a symbol of the collective resolve through which editors across the nation reaffirmed their determination to restore the credibility, autonomy, and responsibility of journalism in India.
A historic step toward restoring the dignity, courage, and propriety of journalism. The message released on this occasion was not merely a formal announcement — it represented deep concern, ethical commitment, and the very soul of journalism that this organization seeks to protect.
Editors, journalists, and media institutions across the country were reminded that an editor is not just a designation but a guardian of democracy and their rights, security, freedom, and dignity must be upheld as the highest priority of this era. The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp, symbolizing the eternal flame of truth and knowledge.
President Amitabh Agnihotri said, “The editor is the lamp that shows the way even in darkness. Editors Club of India is not just an organization — it is a movement, a movement of truth and sensitivity.”
In his deep and insightful address, he said that Indian journalism is going through a phase shaped by political, technological, and commercial pressures — a phase in which the role and responsibility of an editor have grown even greater. He said “Today, when information sources are countless, the chances of confusion rise just as rapidly. In such times, an editor is not just the custodian of news, but the guardian of truth.” Amitabh Ji emphasized that the Editors Club of India will emerge as a strong, neutral, and reliable platform for the interests, security, and freedom of editors.
With this, President Agnihotri inducted 32 members into the Editors Club of India and announced a 10–member National Executive Committee as they took the oath:
- Senior Vice President – Sanjay Goswami
- General Secretary – Dr. Sunil Kaushik
- Treasurer – Satendra Bhati Organization
- Secretary – Naresh Vashishth
- Vice President – Arvind Singh
- Vice President – Alok Kumar Dwivedi
- Joint Secretary – Poornima Mishra
- Joint Secretary – Ashish Kumar Dhyani
- NRI & International Coordinator – Dr. Chandrasen Verma
- IT & Digital Communication Head – Sanjay Narayan Sin
Senior Vice President Shri Sanjay Goswami said: “Credibility is journalism’s greatest asset.” Sanjay Goswami stated that today’s media landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. The explosion of digital media, the rise of fake news, political polarization, and advertising pressures have made an editor’s role more challenging. He said— “Journalism has been tested in every era, but today’s test is the toughest — because there is more information, but less truth.” He clarified that the Editors Club of India will promote a culture of neutrality, restraint, balance, and accurate fact-based reporting.
Sanjay Ji also said— “The more independent journalism is, the stronger our democracy becomes.” National General Secretary Dr. Sunil Kaushik said: “This post is not merely a responsibility for me, but a vow to the nation. An editor is not just a custodian of news but a moral guide for society.” He added that the objective of the Editors Club of India is to unite editors across the country and empower journalism with dignity and freedom. “The time has come for India’s editors to unite and redefine their role.”
Dr. Kaushik said in an emotional and thoughtful tone that the purpose of this organization is not to oppose any institution, but to strengthen journalism and create better pathways. He said, “We will ensure that the editor’s voice is heard at every level — be it the newsroom, the court, the government, or any platform.”
Treasurer Satendra Bhati said, "Editors Club of India will soon launch the ‘National Editor Fellowship Program’, aimed at training editors for strong, ethical, and responsible journalism. Organization Minister Naresh Vashishth said, “A strong organization is the true strength of an editor.”
