MIB issues statement in light of Zee TV and Zee ETC Counting Day coverage
A statement from the Ministry dated 22nd May 2019, highlights that Non-News and Current Affairs channels are not mandated to carry anv news and current affairs content
After reports suggested that Hindi General Entertainment Channel, Zee TV and Hindi movie channel, Zee ETC had lined up Counting Day coverage, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a statement reiterating that election coverage can only be aired on news channels.
A statement from the Ministry dated 22nd May 2019 says, "ln accordance with the Policy Guidelines for Uplinking of Television Channels From India, 2011, this Ministry gives permission for uplinking of TV channels under two categories: (i) Non-News & Current Affairs; and (ii) News & Current Affairs."
Outlining that, "A Non-News & Current Affairs TV channel means a channel which does not have any element of news and current affairs in its programme content."
It further goes on to highlight that "Non-News and Current Affairs channels are not mandated to carry any news and current affairs content."
Adding, "ln view of the above, it is hereby advised that all TV channels may strictly ensure that there is no violation of the aforementioned conditions of the Guidelines."
