Social media platform X has announced that it will suspend creators from its Creator Revenue Sharing programme for 90 days if they post AI-generated videos depicting armed conflicts without clearly disclosing that the content was created using artificial intelligence. The move is part of the platform’s effort to curb misinformation and maintain authenticity during periods of geopolitical tension.

The policy update was shared by X’s Head of Product, Nikita Bier, who said the change is intended to prevent manipulation of the platform’s monetisation system and ensure users can access reliable information during sensitive events. Under the new rules, creators must clearly label videos generated using AI tools when they depict war or military activity.

“Starting now, users who post AI-generated videos of an armed conflict, without adding a disclosure that it was made with AI, will be suspended from Creator Revenue Sharing for 90 days,” Bier said in a post announcing the policy change.

The platform said repeat violations could lead to permanent removal from the revenue-sharing programme, which allows eligible creators to earn a share of advertising revenue generated from engagement with their posts.

The decision comes amid a surge in AI-generated visuals and videos related to ongoing global conflicts, which have circulated widely on social media and sometimes been mistaken for real footage. X said such content can easily mislead users if not properly labelled.

“During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground,” Bier noted, adding that modern AI tools make it “trivial to create content that can mislead people.”

To enforce the policy, X will rely on a mix of detection tools, metadata signals embedded in AI-generated media, and Community Notes, the platform’s crowdsourced fact-checking system. The company said it will continue refining its policies to ensure the platform remains trustworthy during major global events.

The policy comes at a time when social media platforms are grappling with a surge in misleading visuals and AI-generated clips related to ongoing geopolitical tensions, particularly around the Iran–US conflict and wider Middle East developments. Fabricated videos of missile strikes, air raids and military activity have circulated widely online, sometimes attracting millions of views before being debunked.

Amid heightened regional sensitivity, platforms are increasingly under pressure to curb synthetic media that could mislead audiences or amplify misinformation during active conflicts.
