While the PM has been praised by social media for his move to honour women, some couldn’t help comment on the timing of the post. Barely a week after the Delhi riots broke out, the city has been limping back to normalcy. Some have pointed out that the social media exercise is a way to distract the nation from the real issues.
Political commentator Anup Sharma opines: Modi has always been a disruptor be it from the marketing perspective or communications perspective. He is one of the first leaders To gauge the power of social media. He did not just use it well but also took it to the next level this initiative again proves his promises a marketer who knows how to create noise. He is following the crowd sourcing model for people to see Select the person who would operate his account. This has highlighted two aspects-one is woman’s right which is a sensitive issue and the other is how he has taken himself to be the next level marketer in Indian politics. The flipside of The whole process could be the timing of this initiative given the situation in Delhi and some other parts of the country the message he wouldn’t want to carry across is that if he is trying to deflect the situation."
Gimmick or not, the post has been received well on the internet, garnering over 56K likes. The hashtag #SheInspiresUs has been trending on the number one spot on Twitter today.
