Instagram drops IGTV button due to poor user engagement

The photo-sharing app has also started testing a desktop DM feature that lets users share direct messages with others through the browser

Instagram has done away with the IGTV button meant for sharing long-form video content. The Facebook-owned company took to step since the button was seemingly unpopular with the users.

Instagram introduced the IGTV button in 2018 to rivals YouTube. Prior to that, users could only upload videos that were 60-second-long or shorter.

A Facebook spokesperson said that few users were clicking the button on the top right corner of the screen. The IGTV button was removed with the aim to keep the app clutter-free and simple.

In other news, Instagram has finally started testing its desktop DM feature. This means that users can directly send messages to each other through the desktop.

The plans to allow Instagram the direct messaging feature through desktop was first mentioned by app leaker Jane Manchun Wong.

The new update may let users chat with others and share posts using the “message” button.
