Google India launches online music service

Google has launched Google music, which is an online music service and provides legal music. As of now only Hindi music is available and Google has tied up with three companies, namely, in.com, Saavn and Saregama to provide thousands full Hindi songs.

Talking about the new launch, Gautam Gandhi, Head, New Business Development, India, said that this is a Google Lab product, which means that this is experimental project. “We were keen to do this experiment about how can we organize music better for users and we wanted to test it out with Hindi Bollywood music,” he said.

“We also identified some people we can partner with and together will have a large comprehensive amount of music together and each partner had a different type of music. Together I believe we have the largest most organized Bollywood music legally,” he added.

The testing version has just been released and he said that they will proceed with the next stage when the partners and Google feel that it is the right time. He added that in case they have to add more genres, their focus will be on regional languages such as Tamil, Telugu and Punjabi among others.

Explaining the concept in a little more detail, Ranjan Srinivasan, Sr. VP, Marketing, Web 18, said that when someone searches for a song/artist, the first three results will be from the partner sites. “In case of the websites share one song, every time the user clicks on the song, he gets it from any of the three websites.”

The companies also encourage feedback on the website and users can submit their feedback on the product.
