Facebook is reportedly planning to launch its short-video sharing app Lasso in India to compete with TikTok. Media reports suggest that the social media giant may most likely roll out the app by the first quarter of FY20.
Lasso was first introduced in February 2018, aimed mainly at teenagers, as its alternative to the ByteDance-owned video-sharing app. Like TikTok, Lasso lets users record 15-second videos and overlay them with popular songs. The app also has an algorithmic feed of recommended videos and lets users search for content through hashtags or browse pages.
Currently, the app is in use only in the US and the South American countries.
