NCLAT has reduced the CCI's Rs 936-crore penalty imposed on Google parent Alphabet Inc, media networks have reported.

The tech giant now faces a penalty of Rs 217 crore.

The tribunal has thus partly allowed Google's appeal against the CCI order but ruled that the company misused its position in the Android market.

The tribunal, however, did not agree with all directions issued by the CCI.

CCI had imposed Rs 1,350 cr penalty on Google in October 2022 for allegedly exploiting its dominant position in Android. It had also told the tech company to remove restrictions on device makers, including those related to the pre-installation of apps and ensuring exclusivity of its search.
