  • The first shortlists for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2026 have been released, with no Indian campaigns selected in the prestigious Dan Wieden Titanium Lions, Glass: The Lion for Change, and Innovation Lions categories.
  • The festival is scheduled to take place from June 22 to 26 in Cannes, France, and these categories are known for their high standards and ambition in reshaping cultural and technological conversations.
  • Despite the absence of Indian entries in these specific categories, the Indian advertising industry remains confident, with expectations for stronger representation in upcoming categories such as Film, Print, and Digital Craft.
  • India has a notable presence on the Shortlisting Jury for Cannes Lions 2026, with seven industry leaders participating, indicating the country's growing influence in the global creative landscape.

The first set of shortlists for the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2026 is now out, and for Indian advertising, it opens the season with a quiet note. The shortlists for the Dan Wieden Titanium Lions, Glass: The Lion for Change, and the Innovation Lions, three of the festival's most prestigious and closely watched categories, have been announced, and no Indian campaigns have made the cut in any of them.

The 73rd edition of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is scheduled to take place from June 22 to 26 in Cannes, France. These first three categories are traditionally among the most aspirational on the circuit. The Dan Wieden Titanium Lions recognise game-changing creativity, a benchmark that demands work which genuinely shifts the direction of the industry. Glass: The Lion for Change, meanwhile, celebrates culture-shifting creativity that addresses issues of bias and inequality. The Innovation Lions reward groundbreaking problem-solving through technology and creative ingenuity. Making a shortlist in any one of these is no small feat, and the competition this year is as stiff as it has ever been.

The absence of Indian campaigns at this stage, while disappointing, is not necessarily a verdict on the quality of work coming out of the country. These three categories represent a very particular kind of ambition: work that does not just perform well for a brand but actively reshapes cultural or technological conversations on a global scale. India has been building steadily toward that kind of output, and the industry's confidence remains intact.

The remaining category shortlists are set to be unveiled in stages from June 20 through June 26. That means the bulk of the competition, across Film, Print, Outdoor, Digital Craft, Direct, PR, Social & Creator, Brand Experience, and more, is still to be revealed. India has historically found its footing across these categories, particularly in craft and cultural storytelling, and there is every reason to believe this year will be no different.

India has secured a strong presence on the Shortlisting Jury for Cannes Lions 2026, with seven industry leaders selected to help evaluate and shape this year's global creative benchmarks. That kind of representation on the jury side speaks to the growing stature of Indian expertise in the global creative conversation, even when the campaign shortlists are yet to reflect it.

For now, the scoreboard reads nil, but the game is far from over. As the remaining shortlists roll out through the week before the festival, we hope to see Indian campaigns making their presence felt. There is work out there worthy of a Lion, and the next few days will tell us just how far it has travelled.
