Jishnu Sen passed on yesterday. Too young to go, but left his mark on the world of Advertising and Marketing and everyone he came in contact with.
His work across four Asia Pacific countries, New York and ofcourse India gave him enormous experience and perspective. Working for JWT,Y&R and Grey, he worked on mega brands like Colgate, Future Group Pepsi, GSK, Britannia and many more.
I got to know Jishnu very well in the last three years. A time when he had smartly transitioned to the new world. He was working and mentoring Brands in the consumer tech start up space having learnt and added those skill sets to his repertoire
We exchanged notes and learnings, often leaving me with the feeling that I was dealing with a man who had new age expertise.
Jishnu was a connoisseur of food and drink. He was an amazing cook who specialised in Randang curry and knew where to get the best meals from. Evenings at his place would be filled with fun and laughs with him standing at the bar making drinks for everyone.
Sharp intellect, and a wit to match, he was able to converse on a range of topics.
His speciality was to be the contrarian. The Devil’s advocate. And he didn't care if he was in a minority of one. My guess is half the time he did it for fun.
Our love for moving pictures brought a group of like minded friends together. He would always have the best recommendations of shows that had just dropped. Sometimes, he’d post a beautiful Bengali song, or surprise us with interesting anecdotes about his illustrious family.
He built great relationships over the years, but his love for pets and youngsters was noteworthy. While most people say a polite hello, I would notice Jishnu would ask them about their plans and goals and show genuine interest. Guide them and talk their language.
He was totally thriving in today’s work environment, juxtaposed with old world hospitality and charm.
Travel In peace Jishnu. But know you will be missed a lot.
