If someone were to ask me what sets Shashi Sinha apart, I would probably disappoint them by not beginning with his extraordinary professional achievements. Those are well documented and need no repetition from me.
Instead, I would begin—and end—with something else.
His genuine interest in people and their well-being, coupled with extraordinary humility.
Everything else, I believe, flowed naturally from those qualities. They made him a leader people wanted to work with, someone who attracted and retained exceptional talent, nurtured enduring relationships, and earned the respect of the entire industry. They also explain why he was repeatedly entrusted with some of the most complex assignments across industry bodies. Through all of this, one trait never changed—his astonishing responsiveness. No matter how busy he was, I cannot remember a message or call ever going unanswered.
Shashi's background is also something I often quote. Having several fauji friends and family members myself, I have long believed that a Fauji upbringing inculcates remarkable qualities for success in life. Shashi has always been a shining example of that belief.
All of this has, of course, been helped by having a remarkable partner in Ena. Having known them both, I can safely say they are equally warm and gracious. Where they differ, however, is that Ena—whom I have had the privilege of singing alongside—is an exceptional singer, and if both were to offer me a recital, I know exactly which invitation I would accept!
