The advertising and media industry celebrates Lara Balsara Vajifdar, Executive Director of Madison World, as she marks her birthday today.
Lara brings a strong educational foundation to her role, holding a Master's degree in Marketing from Bristol University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. This academic pedigree has equipped her with the strategic thinking and business acumen that have defined her professional journey.
Her career at Madison World spans over 16 years, during which she has been instrumental in transforming the company into a diversified communication powerhouse. Madison World now operates as a group with billing of approximately Rs. 30 billion, encompassing 24 units across 11 specialized functional areas including advertising, media, digital, business analytics, out-of-home, events, activations, PR, retail, entertainment, and sports. The organization employs around 1,000 communication professionals across multiple cities in India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Bangladesh.
Lara has played a pivotal role in several strategic acquisitions that expanded Madison's capabilities and geographic reach. She spearheaded the agency's entry into Bangladesh through an affiliation with Mediacom, an independent local agency. She also oversaw the acquisition of Brandcomm PR, a PR agency with a focus on the South Indian market, which has more than doubled in both revenue and profit since becoming part of Madison World. Additionally, she facilitated the acquisition of Hiveminds Digital, a digital performance agency in Bangalore that has further strengthened Madison's capabilities in the digital space.
At Madison World corporate, Lara oversees critical functions including marketing, new business development, human resources, and legal matters for both the corporate entity and various Madison units. Her leadership has been characterized by strategic vision and operational excellence.
Her contributions to the industry have earned significant recognition. She has been featured in Impact's Top 50 Most Influential Women in Media in India for nine consecutive years since the inception of the report. She also features in Impact's Top 40 Under 40, released in November 2019.
Beyond her professional achievements, Lara is recognized for championing the cause of women in the workplace, demonstrating through her own example that it is possible to excel in demanding executive roles while managing family responsibilities as a mother of two young children.
