A recent digital campaign for demi-fine jewellery brand Palmonas has picked up online momentum by pairing actors Shraddha Kapoor and Amrita Rao in a light-hearted and humorous setting that resurrected a long-running internet meme.
The ad which is for Palmonas' mangalsutra collection, features Shraddha Kapoor herself, who is a co-founder of Palmonas, where she holds a mock brand ambassador agreement and wonders why another ambassador needs to be hired for the married-women-focused line. Cue in Amrita Rao who appears in a soft, traditional role that she had exhibited in her performance in movie Vivah in 2006.
In that film, starring Shahid Kapoor alongside Amrita Rao, a scene in which Rao's character Poonam offers water to her prospective in-laws with the soft-spoken line “Jal lijiye” (“Please have some water”) which years later resurfaced as a viral meme.
The Palmonas ad recreates Amrita Rao’s Vivah persona as she delivers her line in similar style, later giving nod to the meme with a "Jal lijiye" moment with playful extensions like "Jal rahi hai to jaldi lijiye"

The ad just like the meme itself became viral. Netizens have termed the presence of Amrita Rao along with Shraddha Kapoor as the “cultural crossover nobody saw coming,” there have also been some reactions appreciating the youthful appearance of Rao, a user wrote, ““How is Amrita Rao looking like a 29-year-old? She is 44. Same generation as Ananya.” Another said, “Is Amrita a vampire? Because she hasn’t aged a bit since Vivah.”
The Palmonas campaign shows how references from older films can still be relevant in today's advertising landscape, particularly when audiences already associate them with a specific performer. Here, much of the online discussion around the ad has centred on the familiarity of the casting, the recognition of Amrita Rao's Vivah character, and the revival of that well-remembered meme.
