The Indian Premier League (IPL) landscape could soon witness a significant shift as reports indicate that Hombale Films, the production house behind KGF, Kantara, and Salaar, is poised to acquire a part ownership stake in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise.

While official confirmation is still awaited, the news has sent ripples through both the sports and entertainment industries, suggesting a strategic move that could redefine the future of the popular IPL team.

The sale process was officially initiated by current owner Diageo India (via its subsidiary United Spirits Ltd - USL) in November 2025, through a disclosure to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The process, termed a "Strategic Review of Investment" in the Royal Challengers Sports Pvt. Ltd. (RCSPL) entity, signifies the global liquor giant's decision to exit its non-core sports business.

Hombale Films' potential entry is particularly intriguing given their existing relationship with the franchise and the team's championship status. Since April 2023, the production house has served as RCB's official digital partner, a role that has given them an intimate understanding of the team’s operations, brand value, and massive, passionate fan base.

Hombale Films is one of several high-profile entities reportedly vying for a stake in the franchise. The brand appeal of the reigning champions has attracted other major names, including Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Adani Group and JSW Group, and Serum Institute's Adar Poonawalla.

The timeline for this potential transaction is reportedly set for conclusion by March 31, 2026.
