We list a few important stories that you may have missed in the week gone by

The week gone by (December 4 - 8) saw a lot of developments in the world of trade media. One of the major highlights was the elevation of Uday Shankar to President, 21st Century Fox - Asia. In addition to this, the exchange4media group celebrated the best marketing initiatives that were rolled out this year at the 4th edition of the Indian Marketing Awards (IMA). The big winner this year was MediaCom Communications Pvt Ltd that won five gold, two silver and three bronze metals. Procter & Gamble won the Marketing Team of the Year award for its #LikeAGirl and #ItTakes2 campaigns. Just as the year 2017 is ending, we threw a spotlight on the challenges faced by the print industry with the advent of digital medium and economic developments like demonetization and GST. 
In other news, Nestlé India, one of the country’s leading food and beverages conglomerate, has retained Zenith as the AOR (agency of record) for its media business. The account size is pegged to be Rs 650 crore. Lastly, Yupptv has roped in Rajesh Iyer As COO For Apac & Middle East.

The week that has gone by was dominated by several key appointments. Events like FICCI Frames 2019 and Neons OOH Conference 2019 made top headlines. With the elections and IPL round the corner, we had several interesting news articles covering different facets. 

Among the top appointments were Hindustan Unilever Chairman and Managing Director, Sanjiv Mehta, being elevated as President of Unilever South Asia, and L&K Saatchi & Saatchi roping in Trishay Kotwal and  Arthi Basak in top positions. OLX elevated Sushil Kumar as General Manager for India. 

With respect to the general elections, we carried interesting pieces like the OOH sector playing a key role this time and elections adding to TV news viewership numbers.

Recap: The Week That Was

We bring you a round up of the news making headline this week


This week we looked at the upcoming Indian General Election and how political parties have leveraged social media platforms to carry forward their message. We also examined how the recent hoarding ban in Bengaluru has affected political campaigns for the election. The week also witnessed several high profile people movements, including Dentsu Aegis, South Asia's Chairman & CEO, Ashish Bhasin being given an expanded role to CEO, Dentsu Aegis Network Greater South and Chairman and CEO of India. Amitesh Rao was also appointed as EVP & Head of McCann Delhi, while Manisha Lath Gupta joined Uber as Marketing Head for India. Tata Communications also named Sumeet Walia as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer.

As part of International Women's Day celebrations this week, we looked at the changing role of women in the media & marketing industry. The Pitch CMO Summit which was held also held this week with P&G's Abhishek Desai and Nerolac's Anuj Jain emerging as winners at the event. As the week came to a close, the NEONS OOH Conference and Awards took place, with Signpost winning Media Agency of the Year and Alok Jalan winning the Person of the Year award.

In the week gone by, the 11th edition of the exchange4media News Broadcast Awards was held on February 16, 2019, at the Radisson Blu, in Noida. The awards recognised the best in television news and rewards broadcasters and industry leaders who are responsible for shaping the future of Television Broadcasting in India. It also honoured the people who make this industry what it is. The awards saw Faye D' Souza, Avinash Pandey and Supriya Prasad walk away with top honours.

As the build-up around the  2019 Lok Sabha election and the IPL are set to rises, we took a look at these mega-events and what they mean to the industry. 

As the week came to a close the International Advertising Association (IAA) World Forum kicked off in Kochi and was host to several illustrious personalities in the Media, Advertising, Marketing, and Entertainment fields.

This week exchange4media took a look at the emerging trends in various sectors. Also, the I&B Ministry announced its decision to hike ad rates for the print media by 25%. There were also big pitches and account wins, as Marico invited a media pitch worth 500 crores, a year after incumbent agency Lodestar UM took charge of the account, while Dentsu Aegis Network bagged the 500 crore media business for Oppo, OnePlus.

Several interesting people movements also made the news this week, with Matt James being appointed as Global Brand President of Zenith, Binodan Sarma being appointed as VP, Dentsu Impact Digital. Delna Sethna also moved on from L&K Saatchi & Saatchi as Chief Creative Officer, while Priyanka Sehgal of Network18 and Network18 Digital CEO Manish Maheshwari also resigned. In International News, Chris Hirst was elevated as CEO of Global Creative Network, Havas.
