Mumbai's popular tabloid Mid-Day has witnessed a top editorial change, with veteran journalist Clayton Murzello taking over as Editor.
Murzello, who has been associated with the daily for nearly three decades, succeeds Sachin Kalbag. He is one of the longest-serving hands at Mid-Day and is among the most respected sports journalists in Mumbai.
He started as a cricket writer in 1988 and has covered two Cricket World Cups and a host of international series in England, Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, UAE and Bangladesh.
He has been Group Sports Editor and Deputy Editor at Mid-Day for several years, and is also a two-time Sports Journalists' Federation of India (SJFI) award winner. He has co-authored cricket books including Beyond Boundaries with former Test cricketer Sandeep Patil.
Mid-Day, founded in 1979 by Khalid A. H. Ansari, acquired by Jagran Prakashan in 2010, remains Mumbai's only dedicated afternoon compact daily with editions in English and Gujarati, besides its sister Urdu daily Inquilab. The group also founded Radio One which was later acquired by HT Media in 2019.
The appointment is seen as a continuity move, Murzello is steeped in Mid-Day's Mumbai-first, tabloid culture and its deep connection with cricket and local sports, which has long been a differentiator for the paper.
