Award winning journalist Taha Siddiqui, the Pakistan bureau chief of global news channel WION was allegedly held up by a group of 10-12 people in Islamabad earlier today morning. This incident took place while Taha was on his way to the airport to catch a flight. The journalist has been taken to a hospital for a medical examination. He was robbed off all his belongings, including his phone and passport. Siddiqui, who won France's highest journalism award the Albert Londres prize in 2014, said that group had attempted to abduct him and started threatening to kill him. From the photographs shared after the incident he seemed to be in a bad condition as the buttons on his shirt had also been ripped off by the assailants .

Speaking on this, WION Editor-in-Chief, Sudhir Chaudhury says, “Despite the shocking attack on WION’s Pakistan Bureau Chief, Taha Siddiqui, WION remains committed to pursue fearless journalism from the soil of Pakistan. We will continue to report, expose and comment on events in that country. We now expect the government of Pakistan to ensure Taha Siddiqui’s safety and security and get to the bottom of these dastardly attacks, intimidation, assaults and threats to our colleague."

When Kulbhushan Jadhav’s family visited in Pakistan in December’17, Taha was the only media professional to criticise the ill behaviour given to his family and got trolled on social media by fellow Pakistani journalists.

Global media houses who reported the news include Reuters, BBC, Dawn, Daily Times, Hindustan Times and Times of India.
