- Ajit Mohan has announced his resignation as Chief Business Officer of Snap after four years, citing personal reasons and a desire to return to Singapore to be with his family.
- During his tenure, Mohan focused on rebuilding Snap's advertising business, emphasizing performance and direct-response advertising to demonstrate measurable outcomes for advertisers.
- Ronan Harris will succeed Mohan as Chief Commercial Officer of Snap, as announced in Mohan's LinkedIn post.
- Mohan, who previously held leadership roles at Meta India and Star India, plans to take a break before considering his next career steps, including potential writing and filmmaking projects.
Ajit Mohan has announced that he is stepping down as Chief Business Officer of Snap after four years at the company, where he led efforts to rebuild the platform’s advertising business around performance and direct-response advertising.
Mohan announced his departure in a LinkedIn post, citing personal reasons and the desire to return to Singapore, where his family has continued to live.
“After four incredibly fulfilling years at the company, I've decided to step down as Chief Business Officer of Snap,” Mohan wrote.
Reflecting on his mandate at the company, Mohan said the focus had been on rebuilding Snap’s advertising business and demonstrating measurable outcomes for advertisers.
“When I joined, we set out to rebuild Snap's advertising business from the ground up. What that meant in practice: rewiring our ads platform for performance, making direct response the engine of the business, and proving to advertisers that a platform reaching nearly a billion users could deliver real, measurable outcomes.”
“The progress that we have made in the last few years is massive,” he added.
Mohan said his decision to leave was driven by the demands of being based away from his family and the extensive travel this required.
“My reason for leaving is simple and personal. My family stayed back in Singapore, and for the last two years I have been doing a non-trivial commute between New York, LA and Singapore, with a few occasional stops in London, Dubai and Bangalore.”
He added, “I'm coming home, and I am looking forward to spending more time with the boys than with the Singapore Airlines crew on trans-Pacific flights, as wonderful as they are!”
Despite stepping away from his executive role, Mohan said he remained confident about Snap and its future.
“I'm leaving with real confidence in Snap. Evan and the leadership team are building toward something that still matters: a company that still puts human connection and authenticity at the centre, with a big bold bet on the future of computing.”
He added that he would continue to back the company “as a fan and a shareholder.”
Mohan also announced that Ronan Harris will take over as Chief Commercial Officer of Snap.
“And I'm absolutely delighted that a dear friend and partner for the last four years, Ronan H., is taking over as Chief Commercial Officer of Snap to steer the business going forward,” Mohan wrote.
Mohan joined Snap in 2022 as President, APAC, before taking on a broader global role. Prior to Snap, he served as Vice President and Managing Director of Meta India, where he led the company's India business. He has also held leadership roles at Star India and worked with McKinsey & Company.
Mohan did not announce another corporate role and indicated that he intends to take some time before deciding on his next move.
“What's next for me? I may finally act on a fifteen-year-old threat to write a book. Maybe make a movie or two.”
“Perhaps even figure out for myself this whole AI thing.”
For now, however, Mohan suggested a break is firmly on the agenda.
“But for now, I'm just planning to stretch my feet and put my head in a bucket of ice for a bit.”
