Organisational changes at MSM: COO N P Singh speaks to e4m

In a domino effect of sorts, Multi Screen Media (MSM) has made a slew of senior changes in its organisational structure. There is now change of guard at both flagship channel Sony Entertainment Television and Hindi movie and also known as IPL channel, Max. MSM’s COO N P Singh speaks to exchange4media on what led to these changes and the thought process in the final structure as we see now.

The first move was Ajit Thakur’s decision to move on from the MSM family. Speaking on the reason, Singh said, “Ajit’s family is moving to Singapore and that is why he would be leaving MSM.”

Replying to whether Thakur was expected to be in the Sony international structure, Singh said, “Yes, that is something likely to happen. Ajit, in all probability, would be taking up a Singapore-based assignment with Sony’s international operations. He would be travelling to India very frequently in fact.”

The first big decision in front of MSM, following this, was the appointment of the head for Sony Entertainment Television. And for MSM, the answer came from within, in the form of Sneha Rajani, the Sr EVP and Business Head of Max.

Singh elaborated, “Sneha has been with the company for over 11 years now and has had a very successful stint at Max. She helped us launch Max and bring it to the leadership position it enjoys today. She is the key force in the success of IPL for MSM. More importantly, Sneha understands the Hindi general entertainment market extremely well. She was the best person to take Sony forward in its journey ahead.”

For Singh, Sony Entertainment Television is at a crucial juncture. He explained, “If you observe the performance of Sony in the last 18 to
24 month, the channel has grown both in total GRPs and in primetime GRPs. The momentum generated would be taken to the next level by Sneha. Her passion for the medium, combined with domain knowledge and the experience with MSM, truly makes her the right leader for the channel. I am very confident that under her leadership, Sony will continue to do well and grow further.”

As Rajani moves to the Sony side of the MSM office, the Max side needed a new leader too. Once again, MSM looked within the structure and Neeraj Vyas, who has been heading the sales for Sony, came as the management’s choice.

“Neeraj has been with the company for over 15 years and has had a very successful track record in the sales function of Sony. He is passionate about movies and cricket, and he was the right person to take the Business Head role at Max,” said Singh.

Even as these changes would be effective in a week’s time, Singh pointed out that it is still a transitory phase for both Sneha Rajani and Neeraj Vyas, and that for some time there would be overlap of responsibilities. For instance, Sneha Rajani will continue to handle IPL this season as well.
