BBC has announced plans to cut between 1,800 and 2,000 jobs—nearly 10% of its workforce, as per media reports.

The network has reportedly said that it seeks to address “mounting financial pressures” and plans to deliver £500 million in savings over the next two years.

A BBC report quoted interim director general Rhodri Talfan Davies as saying that the scale of the cost-cutting effort could lead to significant changes across the organisation, including the potential closure of entire channels or services. Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Media Show, he indicated that “everything” would be under review as the broadcaster works through difficult decisions.

Davies added that more details on how services will be affected are expected later this year, as the BBC evaluates how to implement changes while “preserving core offerings across television, radio and digital platforms”.
