Maruti Suzuki, SBS Biotech retain top print advertiser spot in Jan-Sep'24 over '23

TAM AdEx has revealed in its print advertising report for January to September 2024 that the medium experienced a 3% increase in ad space when compared to January to September 2023, indicating a positive trend in print advertising.
The education sector has emerged as the leader in print ad space, accounting for a 17% share in Jan-Sept '24, highlighting its dominance over the same period in 2023. The others ranked on the list were the Services sector with 15% share, Auto sector with 14% share, Banking/Finance sector with 11%, Retail with 8%, followed by, Personal Accessories, Food & Beverage, Personal Healthcare, Durables and more.
The top six sectors maintained their rankings from Jan-Sep'23 to Jan-Sep'24, while Telecom Products showed significant growth, leaping seven spots to secure 10th place.
When it comes to leading categories, the Cars category solidified its dominance during the period, retaining the top position with a 7% share of total ad space. The second position was occupied by ‘Multiple Courses’ category that has jumped from its fourth position in 2023.
Meanwhile, Two Wheelers demonstrated remarkable growth, climbing from the 7th position in the same period of 2023 to secure third place with a 5% share of ad space in 2024. Furthermore, the top 10 categories combined accounted for 44% of the total ad space during Jan-Sep’24.
Maruti Suzuki India and SBS Biotech emerged as the top two advertisers, maintaining their leadership positions across both JanSep’24 and Jan-Sep’23. Hero Motocorp, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India, Reliance Retail, Samsung India Electronics, LIC of India followed the trail of leading advertisers in Jan-Sep 2024.
During the period, the top 10 advertisers collectively accounted for 14% of the total ad space. Notably, four advertisers from the auto sector featured prominently among the top 10 in both Jan-Sep 2023 and 2024, underscoring the sector's continued dominance.
Honda Shine 100 claimed the top spot in Jan-Sep'24, improving its position from the same period in 2023. Following this were, Honda Activa H Smart, Maruti Car Range, Allen Career Institute. Furthermore, over 1.43 lakh brands were actively present during Jan-Sep'24, reflecting a consistent brand presence.

Two Wheelers were among the categories that witnessed the highest increase in Ad secondages with 49% growth, followed by Cars with 20% growth during Jan-Sep’24 when compared to Jan-Sep’23. In terms of growth percentage, the Corporate-Financial Institute category witnessed the highest growth among the Top 10 i.e. 2.63 times in Jan-Sep’24.
Sales Promotion advertising covered 29% share of ad space in Print during Jan-Sep’24, as per the report. Among Sales Promotions, Discount Promotion secured first position with 43% share of ad space followed by Multiple Promotion with 42% share.
Overall, the print medium attracted over 117K advertisers active in Jan-Sep’24, which saw a marginal decline from 120K in Jan-Sep’23.
