Minal Kasturia, National Head, Sakal Media Group celebrates his birthday today. Kasturia’s career began with The Indian Express, where he started in media marketing before rising to become Head of Space Marketing for the Chandigarh branch. The role gave him charge of advertising revenues across Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. Managing these diverse territories built his appreciation for regional markets and their place within India’s media ecosystem.

He then moved into television as Deputy Vice President at Zee Telefilms, where he was responsible for ad sales in the North for Zee Smile. Transitioning from print to TV gave Kasturia a broader view of media consumption and advertising dynamics, sharpening his skills in revenue generation and brand partnerships.

His next significant role came with Business Standard, where he served as Deputy General Manager for the North. Here, he returned to print, this time in the business news segment, where building advertiser trust and sustaining circulation were critical. These early stints laid the foundation for what would become the longest and most influential chapter of his career.

For more than 15 years, Kasturia was with Bennett, Coleman & Company Limited (BCCL), India’s largest media conglomerate. His final position at BCCL was Associate Vice President and Branch Head for Jaipur, overseeing the Rajasthan market. Leading a key regional branch within the Times Group allowed him to combine strategic vision with operational execution, balancing local sensitivities with the scale of a national media powerhouse.

In September 2023, Kasturia returned to mainstream media in a leadership role with Sakal Media Group, one of Maharashtra’s most prominent publishing houses. He was appointed National Head, based in Delhi, responsible for driving Sakal’s marketing strategy across the country. This move reflected both a homecoming and a step into new responsibility, with the challenge of strengthening a regional powerhouse’s presence in India’s wider media landscape.

Kasturia’s journey highlights recurring themes: a consistent ability to adapt to different media platforms, a grounding in regional markets that has informed his national leadership roles and a career-long focus on building sustainable revenue strategies. His progression from branch-level leadership to national marketing head demonstrates a steady rise through India’s media sector at a time when it has undergone profound shifts.
