In the global marketplace of ideas, leaders are brands. Few contemporary leaders have understood, shaped and harnessed their brand like India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His story is not just of political ascent, but of creating an image, a movement and a promise of a New India. What makes him extraordinary is how seamlessly he has married the power of events and experiences with the ambition of a billion people.
I come from the world of events and experiences. For us, events are not just gatherings. They are stages on which nations tell their stories. Narendra Modi, perhaps more than any other leader in recent times, has mastered the Art of The Event. From his oath-taking at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2014, attended by SAARC heads of state, to Howdy Modi in Houston, Namaste Trump in Ahmedabad, Ahlan Modi in Dubai, Global Citizen Festival, IIFA 25 in Jaipur and the grand staging of India’s G20 presidency, each moment has been choreographed to communicate a larger narrative: India has arrived!
But beyond the spectacle, what makes Modi stand apart is his understanding that events cannot thrive without infrastructure and policy. An Experience Economy cannot grow on dreams alone, it needs roads, airports, convention centres, stadiums, digital highways and policy changes. Over the past decade, India’s infrastructure transformation has been dramatic. High-speed expressways, new metro systems, upgraded airports and world-class convention venues are not only easing travel and logistics, but they are also enabling the growth of a modern event and experiential economy.
As someone who has watched the industry evolve from the era of live shows and cultural festivals to today’s integrated, tech-driven spectacles, I see Modi’s India as the fertile ground where Event Industry 3.0 is becoming reality. This is the era of borderless events, where physical venues merge with digital platforms, where India hosts global summits one week and mega concerts the next, where every gathering is both local and global. Here “Wed in India” meets “Meet in India” meets “Concert Economy”. Event Tourism will be the key driver that will push forward the world’s third largest economy.
The G20 presidency was a watershed. For a year, India became the world’s stage. From Srinagar to Shillong, from Goa to Gandhinagar, Bengaluru to Jaipur, cities across the country transformed into arenas of global engagement. This was not just diplomacy, it was nation branding at its finest. For the event industry, the G20 was a revelation. Suddenly, the need for flawless execution, impeccable hospitality, seamless logistics, and world-class production was a national priority. It showcased the talent of Indian event professionals to the world, while raising standards at home.
Alongside the diplomatic and business summits, another wave is sweeping India: the rise of the concert economy. International acts like Coldplay, Jay Z, U2, Bryan Adams, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce have already tested Indian waters. More are on their way. Homegrown festivals are drawing record audiences. And here too, Modi has played a role. His emphasis on India as a youthful, aspirational, global nation has encouraged brands, organizers and audiences alike. The message is clear: India is not just a market; it is The Stage.
I find PM Modi’s vision instructive. He understands that soft power is as important as hard power. He knows that in the 21st century, perception is reality—and that perception is shaped in moments. Cultural moments have been made memorable. Every rally, every Mann Ki Baat broadcast, every foreign leader’s welcome has been crafted as a chapter in the story of New India.
For us in the events and experiential industry, this is both an opportunity and a challenge. The opportunity is to ride the wave of infrastructure growth, government support, consumerism and global attention. The challenge is to grow a skilled work force that helps match ambition with creativity, precision and innovation.
If we Dream Big, together we can only Achieve Bigger!
