Trump Media & Technology Group, the media company backed by US President Donald Trump, has withdrawn its defamation lawsuit against The Guardian and two other defendants over a report that alleged financial dealings tied to Russia.
The lawsuit is connected to a March 2023 report by The Guardian, which said federal prosecutors were examining whether $8 million in payments received by Trump Media could be linked to potential money laundering. According to the report, the funds were routed through Caribbean entities that appeared to be partly controlled by a relative of an associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The original article cited sources indicating that New York prosecutors had initiated a criminal inquiry into the transactions, focusing on the origins and structure of the payments.
Trump Media had challenged the report as defamatory.
