Someone who loved life and loved people: Niloufer Dundh

The title of my note sums up Rohinton Maloo – someone who loved life and loved people. This is how I will always remember him. At his funeral yesterday, I was not surprised to see the media turn up and it was evident that in someway he had touched all our lives. Where did he find the time or energy to do this? If you care you find the time.

I first met him when I was at Radio Mirchi, I remember it was the summer of 2002. For me, he was a messiah who saved me from a career disaster. One night in early September 2006, around 10 pm I got a call from him and what he told me saved me from what would have been a big career mistake. What I will never forget is how he dug this information out from his sources and thought it important to tell me without wasting a moment.

Since then, my fondness for this man took another turn. My last drink/chat with him was at the Pitch summit in Mumbai on November 17, where he had dragged his wife and she categorically told me that she’s not into attending these dos, but he was so insistent that she came along… We laughed, had a drink and then I left, but not without giving them a hug. (Anurag Batra was with us when we shared this moment). I will miss him…
