Unilever CEO Fernando Fernandez has identified India as the company’s biggest growth opportunity in the years to come, driven by rising consumption, premiumisation and new categories, new segments and new formats. Speaking at the Barclays Global Consumer Conference 2026 alongside Hindustan Unilever (HUL) MD and CEO Priya Nair, Fernandez said the company’s decades-long presence in the country gives it a strong foundation to capture the next phase of consumer growth.

Fernandez highlighted Unilever’s scale, leading market positions, strong portfolio of brands, wide distribution network and local talent as key advantages in India. He said the company’s deep understanding of the market, built over decades, gives it an edge as more businesses look to tap into India’s growing consumer opportunity.

"Unilever has spent decades building in India. The payoff will be substantial growth in the years to come. We have scale. Leading market positions. A stable of loved brands. Deep reach. Unmatched talent. And decades of experience competing in one of the world’s most dynamic consumer markets. Others are increasingly discovering the India opportunity, it is true. But we know the map of every zip code", he stated in his LinkedIn post.

In his post, he added that India is already Unilever’s second-largest market, and the company expects it to become an even bigger growth engine in the coming years. Fernandez pointed to rising consumption, premiumisation, new categories, emerging consumer segments and new formats as key areas that could drive future growth for the company.
