Industry mourns the loss of Chandramouli Venkatesan
Friends and colleagues remember Venkatesan as a deeply passionate and ambitious man who was a mentor to many in the industry
Leaders across industries mourned the sad demise of Chandramouli Venkatesan, Chief Executive Officer, Special Projects at Pidilite Industries Ltd. Venkatesan was not just an industry veteran but also a successful author known for his books Catalyst and Get Better at Getting Better. Colleagues and peers poured their heart out on social media to share fond memories of Venkatesan.
Remembering Venkatesan, Anil Viswanathan, Senior Director – Marketing (Chocolates), Insights and Analytics, Mondelez India said, "Chandramouli, or Mouli as how people used to fondly call him, is no more. He leaves behind his father, wife and daughter. Famous for his books, Catalyst and Get Better at Getting Better, Mouli was very widely known and well respected for his strong stints in Asian Paints, Mirc, Cadbury and Pidilite. Most prominent amongst these was his 11 year Stint in Cadbury/Mondelez where he joined as Strategy Director ended as the MD of the Indian business. Among his many accomplishments is the scaling up of the chocolate business and the successful launch of the biscuits business with Oreo in 2010. Through his career, Mouli invested deeply in relationships -- within and outside the organization and is very well regarded in the industry and media circles.
"Deeply passionate and ambitious in everything that he does, Mouli inspired a whole generation of managers with his energy, commitment and can-do spirit. Despite tasting incredible success through his career, Mouli was known for his humility and for his open and inclusive outlook. People were his core passion, and this was triggered in his stint as the HR Director in Mondelez. This manifested into his mentoring and writing interests later in his career. He firmly believed in the need to inspire all young managers to think about themselves and their careers and made it his motto. His close friends and colleagues are deeply shaken by his sudden decline in health in 2020, which took away a simple, gentle and a deeply intellectual friend."
Sukesh Nayak, CCO, Ogilvy India remembers Venkatesan: “I met Chandramouli when I had just joined advertising and I still remember his encouraging smile that gave one the confidence to keep going. He will be missed by all. His encouraging smile will be missed even more,”.
Abhijit Avasthi, Founder, Sideways Consulting said, “I always marvelled at Mouli's desire to chase different pursuits and excel at them. I once asked him how he managed to do it all. He said, 'Kinu, I am very achievement-oriented. I am hungry to do lots of things and constantly want to get better at them...that is why I pack in golf, running, singing, writing with great discipline, over and above my day job'. I guess this curious, free-spirited quest coupled with an unquenchable thirst for knowledge is what also helped Mouli create some of the most iconic campaigns for Cadbury. He pushed us constantly, but always with a big smile."
Lloyd Mathias, Angel Investor and former Marketing Head PCs, HP Asia-PAC took to social media and wrote. “Devastating to hear about Chandramouli Venkatesan's passing! Long stint at Cadbury's/Mondelez India where he was MD in 2015-16, then with Pidilite and recent author of books: Catalyst and Get Better at Getting Better. RIP. You were a catalyst for many.”
Pradeep Dwivedi, CEO - India at Eros International Media Limited also took to social media to express grief. Quoting an older post on one of Venkatesan's books he wrote, “Dear All, While some of you may be aware, I am heartbroken and very sorry to share that we have lost our dear friend #Mouli -Chandramouli Venkatesan, Ex-Mondelez, Pidilite, today. An amazing and warm human being, author, coach and mentor to many of us at in the industry. He has left a shocking void. Prayers for the dear departed soul R.I.P.”
