The much-awaited trailer of Zoya Akhtar’s next directorial venture, Gully Boy has just dropped. The movie features actors Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt. While the trailer has been received well by both B-town and movie buffs, some of the dialogues from the trailer have become a hit fodder for meme-maker online, Mumbai Police too used them giving them useful and meaningful twists. And netizens just love it!

From Ranveer Singh's 'Apna time aayega' to Alia Bhatt's 'Mar jayega tu', several dialogues from the 2-minute-40-second trailer have been immortalised as hilarious memes. The Mumbai Police, which is known to have its social media game on point, also jumped on the bandwagon. As Alia’s dialogue, ‘Mar Jayega Tu’ became fodder for the meme-maker online, the cops used the line to make an important point about road safety. “When he argues to ride a motorcycle without wearing a helmet,” they tweeted. But instead of the viral hashtag of #GullyBoy they altered it to #SillyBoy,” the caption read.

Fans also superimposed faces of other celebrities on the Gully Boy poster and replaced the film’s title with a biting joke at the expense of the new subject. For instance, Virat Kohli’s poster carried the title, ‘Gaali Boy’ while Shahid Afridi’s poster had the title, ‘Well Played Boys’.

Gully Boy is based in part on the lives of rappers Divine and Naezy, whose youth in the streets of Mumbai inspires Ranveer’s character in the film.

Produced by Tiger Baby Productions and Excel Entertainment, Gully Boy also features Kalki Koechlin, Vijay Raaz, Amruta Subhash and Siddhant Chaturvedi in pivotal roles. The film is slated to release on February 14.
